Uploading a photo may seem like a routine part of creating a matrimony profile. But for many Muslim women, it raises an important concern:

Who will be able to see my photo, and what happens to it after that?

At NikahForever, we noticed that many women were hesitant to add a profile photo. When our support team spoke to them and their families, the reason became clear: they were concerned about their privacy.

Some worried that their photographs could be downloaded, shared or misused. Others were uncomfortable making their picture visible to everyone who came across their profile.

This concern led us to build the NikahForever photo blur feature, a privacy control that lets users decide who can see their profile photo clearly.

The Concern We Kept Hearing From Muslim Women

A profile photo can help a potential match and their family make a more informed decision. However, asking someone to make their picture visible to every user can create unnecessary discomfort.

Our early internal observations suggested that only around 10% of women were adding photos to their profiles.
They were not avoiding photos because they were not serious about marriage. The hesitation came from not knowing who might see their picture or where it might eventually be shared.

The problem was not the photo itself. It was the lack of control over its visibility.

We needed to create a middle ground where users could complete their profiles without feeling that they had made their photographs public to everyone.
Why We Built NikahForever’s Photo Blur Feature
Instead of asking, “How do we convince more women to upload photos?” we asked a different question:

How can we help users add a photo while allowing them to decide who gets to see it clearly?

The answer was not to remove photos from the Muslim matrimony process. It was to give users control over when and with whom they shared them.

That became the foundation of NikahForever’s photo blur feature.

A user could upload a clear photograph, keep it blurred from general view and reveal it only after reviewing the profile of the person requesting access.

Is Photo Blur Available to Both Women and Men?

The feature was initially developed in response to privacy concerns raised primarily by Muslim women and their families.

However, photo privacy is not relevant to only one gender. Men may also prefer to limit who can view their photographs while searching for a marriage partner.

That is why the photo blur feature is available to both women and men on NikahForever.

Every user can decide whether to keep their profile photo visible or manually blur it.

How Does Photo Blur Work on NikahForever?

The feature adds a layer of consent between uploading a profile photo and allowing another user to view it clearly.

1. Upload a Profile Photo

A user can add a clear photograph while creating or completing their NikahForever profile.

2. Turn On Photo Blur

Profile photos are not blurred automatically. Users who want additional privacy can manually turn on the photo blur setting.
The photo remains part of the profile, but other users cannot see it.

3. Receive a Photo-View Request

A user who has sent you a match request can also request permission to view your blurred photo.

Your photograph is not automatically revealed simply because someone has discovered or shown interest in your profile.

4. Accept or Decline the Request

When you receive a photo-view request, you can first review the other person’s profile and decide whether you are comfortable sharing your picture with them.

If you accept the request, that particular user can view your photo clearly. If you decline it, the photo remains blurred.

Instead of revealing your photo to everyone, you make the decision one profile at a time.

5. End Access by Unmatching or Blocking

At present, NikahForever does not offer a separate option to revoke photo access after a request has been accepted.

However, access ends when you unmatch or block the user. Once unmatched, they will no longer be able to view your unblurred photo.

Blocking goes a step further. A blocked user cannot see your profile or photographs on NikahForever.

Does NikahForever Prevent Screenshots?

Photo blur protects a photograph before access is granted. We also wanted to make it more difficult for someone to save a photo after it had been revealed.

That is why screenshot capture is disabled within the NikahForever app.

Screenshot restriction creates an additional barrier against someone casually capturing and saving another user’s profile photo.

Photo blur, selective access, unmatching, blocking and screenshot restriction work together to give users greater control over their profile photographs.

As we explained in our previous guide, Inside NikahForever’s Privacy and Safety Controls, protecting users requires multiple features to work together rather than relying on a single safeguard.

How Photo Privacy Changed Profile Completion

Today, NikahForever’s internal data shows that 55% of women upload a profile photo and keep it blurred, sharing it only with matches whose photo-view requests they choose to accept.

While this change cannot be attributed to the photo blur feature alone, it shows a clear shift in user behaviour:

When people have greater control over their visibility, they feel more comfortable completing their profiles.

Women no longer have to choose between leaving their profile without a photo and making their picture visible to everyone.

They can participate in the matrimony process while deciding when and with whom their photo should be shared.

Why Photo Blur Is More Than a Privacy Setting

A complete matrimony profile and a private experience do not have to be competing goals.

Sometimes, the right product decision is not to persuade users to ignore their concerns. It is to understand those concerns and design around them.

For us, photo blur is not simply a visual effect placed over a picture. It is a consent feature.

It allows a user to say:

My photo is part of my matrimony profile, but I still decide who gets to see it clearly.

That sense of control is especially important in Muslim matrimony, where the search for a spouse may involve personal boundaries, modesty, family participation and concerns about privacy.

Your Photo. Your Decision.

Searching for a spouse should not require you to make your photograph visible to every person who comes across your profile.

With NikahForever’s photo blur feature, you can add a profile photo, keep it private and decide when a potential match is allowed to see it clearly.
